I feel as though I have been running around constantly lately and with being on the go all the time, comes the need to treat yourself to some relaxation and peace and quiet. While I think it is so important to find time to relax, sometimes it can be hard to find that time. However, if we know some easy ways to relax, then we can most definitely make it work! No excuses!
Here are 15 Easy Ways To Ease Your Mind:
1. Read a book ~
One of the main reasons I love to read books is because I can immerse myself into something completely unrelated to my life. Reading about something or someone else gives me a wonderful break from reality and allows me to forget about my life for a period of time – sometimes you just need to get away! I love curling up on the couch or in bed with a great book to forget about the stress of the day and just enjoy myself.
2. Enjoy a cup of tea ~
I am not a huge tea drinker, but I find Chamomile tea really helps calm me down and helps me sleep. It is a gentle relaxant that acts as a nerve tonic and a sleep aid. Try brewing yourself a nice cup of chamomile tea – or any other tea that you like – and add some honey for a boost of nutrients!
3. Do your nails or go get them done ~
I love painting my nails, but who doesn’t love when someone else does it for you? Treat yourself to a mani/pedi OR grab one of your favourite bottles of nail polish and treat yourself to a manicure. It will feel great, focus your mind on something else and it will help you look great too!
4. Take a bath ~
I absolutely love taking baths! I love putting some candles on and putting on some background music while I am in there. Something about soaking in a warm tub is great to ease the stress that builds up with a busy life.
5. Write in a journal ~
I am a big fan of writing in a journal to write down your thoughts and worries – putting them down on paper will help clear your mind and put you more at ease. Sometimes it may even help you understand yourself better!
6. Listen to music ~
Put your favourite song on. Sing along and dance. Close your eyes and listen. Let the music relax you and inspire you.
7. Play with your pet ~
When I have too much on my mind, I love taking a few minutes to pet, play and cuddle with my dog. It not only makes me happy but it also makes her happy – win, win situation!
8. Watch a favorite movie ~
Do you have a favourite movie? Is there a movie you can’t get enough of? My favourite movie is “The Holiday” and every time I watch it, I get lost in the story and imagine as if it were my own. It’s a great way to get away from reality, even if it is only for a couple hours.
9. Bake ~
I love to bake – just the smell of home baked cookies or cake can be quite relaxing. Grab a recipe off Pinterest or an inexpensive box mix and whip up something yummy for you and your family family to enjoy.
10. Work out ~
If your body feels better, so does your mind. Exercise and other physical activity produces endorphines that act as natural painkillers. Not only can exercise and physical activity help reduce stress, but it can also improve the ability to sleep.
11. Clean up ~
I always enjoy taking time to clean up my room, closet, or any other space. Cleaning not only helps me stay organized but it takes my mind away from something that may be stressing me out and lets me focus on something else for a while.
12. Go for a walk and DON’T TAKE YOUR PHONE ~
Having a dog has really made me appreciate going for walks and it has become one of my favorite things to do because it gives me a chance not only to spend time with her, but also time to clear my head and enjoy some nature. Walking is a great way to unwind and get a change of scenery when you are having a stressful or really busy day.
13. Eat some fruit and/or chocolate ~
Most fruits are rich in Vitamin C and this will help lower levels of stress hormones in the body. Fruits are full of natural sugars and can also satisfy your sweet tooth! Some fruits that are full of Vitamin C and that I enjoy are: strawberries, kiwi, cherries, oranges, mangoes, pineapple and bananas! You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with some chocolate – I like to eat dark chocolate – the more cacao the better!
Put on a facial mask ~
Stress not only affects how you feel, but also how you look – stress can affect your skin by causing inflammation, bitchiness and redness! It is extremely important to take care of your skin and it can be so relaxing! Cleanse your face, put on a facial mask, sit back and relax as your skin rejuvenates itself. I am really loving the skincare line from First Aid Beauty!
15. Take a deep breath and stretch ~
Sometimes even the act of just taking a deep breath can really help in aiding relaxation. When I am feeling overwhelmed, pausing to take a big deep breath forces me to calm down and re-focus myself and my energy.
So, take a little time from your busy life and utilize these tips on easy ways to ease your mind!
