Have you noticed how fast life seems to be passing us by?
It seems as though we are all trying to go faster, as if our lives are races we have to finish.
I have been told countless times that I am thinking too much into the future, to live in the now and to stop being so hard on myself if my life goals/plans are not reached yet… but I’d like to think it’s normal and it happens sometimes.
Being human, we are always looking and comparing ourselves and our lives to others and what they have accomplished. Don’t get me wrong, it is good to set some of our goals based off of what we see others achieving – this may even give us the motivation we need. However, this can often leads us to a feeling of envy and jealousy, wishing we were in their shoes rather than our own.
Rather than rushing on to the next thing on your endless to-do list, we should focus on doing fewer things more completely and enjoying the process along the way. Life can and should be about being present and noticing what’s around you and what’s inside of you.
Everything seems to be passing by and I feel as though I am not appreciating any of it because I am so focused on the future and all of the things I need to do to get there. I know I need to change my mindset and start trying to live more in the “now” rather than wishing I was in the future.
Why we hurry through life:
~ Thinking the next thing will always be better
Who is to say that right now, this present moment, isn’t the best time of your life? I remember thinking and wishing school would be done and over with so that I could “start my life”. Now, I wish I would have appreciated my time in school and all the freedom that came along with it.
We may feel that if we are better, smarter and/or more successful, we will be more important in the world. You are already important and you need to realize that!
We are all at fault to this. We see someone else, what they have, or what they do and we want it. We don’t see how hard those people worked to be where they currently are in life. All we see is the things we would like for ourselves and assume others are lucky. All good things come to those who work for it, to make what they want happen. Don’t compare your life, successes/failures or experiences to others – we are all on different journeys and we will get to where we want and need to be, it just takes time.
Similar to comparison, we tend to look to and use others to evaluate our own success. We always strive to have more or achieve our goals quicker than the next person and this can be very unhealthy and sometimes unrealistic. Instead of doing this, we should be analyzing our success based off of what we have accomplished and our past experiences to gain a better understanding of ourselves and our goals.
~ We want it NOW
It seems as though we have lost touch with how much work it takes to accomplish something. Nothing happens overnight – if you have a goal, you need to make a plan on how to achieve it and then work for it. Be patient, work hard and stay positive.
I truly hope you are all enjoying your life and where you are at currently.
