I meant to share this post awhile ago, but things kept coming up and I simply ran out of time… between planning my engagement party, checking out wedding venues, creating my Youtube channel, working full time… time was of the essence and I was unable to get this post up.
With all that being said, it’s been exactly 1 MONTH SINCE I GOT ENGAGED!
It feels like it was just yesterday that we were on the Carnival Splendor cruise, starring out into the beautiful blue ocean… it is so crazy how fast time keeps flying by!
On Sunday September 25th, 2016, my boyfriend asked me to spend the rest of my life with him and marry him. It was the most surreal setting and totally unexpected.
If I am 100% honest, I had a feeling he was planning on proposing while on the cruise, but as time went on, it didn’t seem like anything was prepared for that to actually happen… little did I know that everyone knew his plan!
Sunday September 25th, 2016 was Formal night on the Carnival Splendor, a night where we are asked to dress fancy and enjoy a luxurious meal. I had planned two formal dresses for the cruise and chose to wear my white lace dress for the first night. Little did I know that this was the perfect dress to wear!
Dinner was delicious. We ordered steaks and lobster tails – so yum! Sometime during dinner, my boyfriend went to the washroom – I didn’t think anything of it – and later on, his older brother left to go to the washroom as well – again, didn’t think anything of it.
All of a sudden, someone who works on the cruise ship came up to our table and asked for me by name. He gave me a single red rose and said, “Your presence is requested. Please follow me”. At this time, I was a little confused, however, me being the drama major and hopeless romantic that I am, I thought this was a normal occurrence on the cruise ship and/or thought my boyfriend had planned a cute getaway from dinner.
On the deck that night, a movie called “Me Before You” was playing on the big screen and I really wanted to go see it. Unfortunately, it was playing at the same time we were at dinner and my boyfriend knew I was really sad about it because I really wanted to go see it. With that being said… that is exactly what was going through my mind when this man came and escorted me away from dinner. As we walked through the halls and went up the elevators, I realized we were walking in the direction of where the movie was playing. I was so excited when we got up to the deck and immediately started looking around for my boyfriend… but he was no where to be found. I realized my escort was still walking way ahead of me and I had to catch up. At this point, I was really confused and frustrated – 1. My feet were hurting (those bright pink heels are pretty to look at but not so fun to walk in) and 2. I really wanted to see that movie!
I finally caught up to my escort and began asking him questions. He was very polite but did not give me any answers, he just kept walking ahead. Finally, we get to the back of the ship and I walk through the last set of doors before I see my boyfriend standing in the corner of the ship with the biggest smile on his face. I walked up to him and he took my hands and turned me around so my hair blew with the wind. I noticed there was someone playing the guitar and his brother was there with a camera. I looked at my boyfriends face and all of a sudden I knew what was happening.
He was proposing.
He got down on one knee and asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him and marry him.
I said yes. All I could say was yes, over and over again.
When I thought all was said and done, he picks up the single red rose that my escort gave me and asked me, “Will you accept my last and final rose?” – I can’t even begin to explain how sweet and thoughtful this gesture was (I’m a big Bachelor fan).
Yes, forever and always, yes.
It was such an amazing night, one that I will always remember and be able to play back in my head and by watching our proposal videos. I am so glad I was able to get our moment recorded and I have to give a huge shoutout and thank you to my future brother-in-law: THANK YOU, you captured something so special to me and I will forever be thankful.
If you are interested in watching, I have put up a video on my vlog channel of the Proposal Day – keep in mind this is not the actual proposal video… that video is soon to come!
Thank you so much for everyone who was a part of our special day and for loving and supporting us throughout our relationship. We are so excited and can’t wait to begin our lives together!
