Today was not a good day.
It was just one of those days where nothing was going right. I felt unmotivated, frustrated and questioning everything.
Just one of those days.
While these days do leave you feeling irritated and maybe confused, I like to take these days to reflect on myself and develop ways to improve for next time. Here are some things I do and strategies I use to overcome a bad day:
This seems obvious, but it is very easy not to realize or remember this in the heat of the moment and it can often make a day go from bad to even worse. By realizing that it’s a bad day and not a bad life, it can often help shift your perspective to get through your emotions and your day.
~ Don’t let a bad day turn into a bad week
Try to remind yourself that the way you’re feeling isn’t going to last forever. Focus on the day at hand, on getting over it and getting through it. Don’t let your bad day and your feelings carry over to the next day. Tomorrow is a new day, a new beginning and a chance to do and be better!
Stay away from medication or over eating – it may “numb” the pain or make you feel better, but it will be temporary and you’ll likely regret your decision later. Instead, take a few minutes and go somewhere quiet to sit and meditate. Listen to some peaceful music, or sit in silence and just breathe. I like to write in my journal or go for a walk to clear my head.
~ Stretch and Sweat it Out
Self-explanatory – stretching and working out automatically alleviates stress and sadness.
~ Try to put off making decisions, if possible
This is something I’m sure we have all done and learned the hard way. When you are not yourself, it is easy to make rash decisions that may seem like a good idea at the time. A bad day or being in a bad mood is not the time to many any quick decisions, especially important ones such as decisions about your job, shopping, friendships, relationships, etc.
Hope you’re all having a better day than I! XO
