Hello! Happy Hump Day!
I am finally starting to get back on track with a routine and I am feeling so much better knowing I have things to do everyday. One of those things on my daily to-do list is to work out, however, I have been having a hard time trying to motivate myself! It is so easy to skip a workout because you’re too tired – I think that’s probably one of the most common excuses. Exercising requires energy, so of course you need to take care of your body and mind first!
Here are 5 Ways I Keep Myself Motivated to Work Out:
1. Get Inspired
Basically, do whatever you’ve got to do to get yourself excited to work out and then make the most of that energy! Some ways you can get inspired include:
- Buy some new workout gear
- Update your playlist with your favourite songs
- Print out some inspirational quotes
- Watch an inspiring video or show before you work out
- Keep a journal and keep it up-to-date with your workout routines
2. Set a Goal
There’s nothing more motivating, sometimes even scary, than setting goals for yourself. Your goals don’t need to be big, instead, they should be realistic goals that include clear milestones as you progress toward your end goal. What I mean by realistic is that it is a goal you can actually adapt your life around to meet it. If it is a big goal and unrealistic to achieve then you are setting yourself up for failure and disappointment and nobody wants that! Set smaller goals that are easy to achieve and work your way towards the bigger goals.
3. Schedule a Regular Workout Time
This seems like a pretty simple thing to do, but it can be very hard sticking with it! Most people commit to working out every day before the sun comes up or late in the afternoon when they are off work – this may not work for everyone so take time to sit down with your weekly schedule and try to fit in a work out time each day (or how ever many days you’d like). Set it up in your calendar, your phone or wherever else and view it as if it were any other important appointment you have to keep. Make the time and stick to it!
4. Make It Fun & Mix It Up
Working out doesn’t have to be and shouldn’t be boring or repetitive. Anything you do over and over again will eventually get boring, no matter how motivated you are to succeed. It is important to change your routine up and make it more exciting – if your exercise is fun, you will end up looking forward to it instead of dreading it!
5. Never Settle, Always Push
If working out was easy, everyone would do it. When you start exercising, your body will start to feel tired or maybe even uncomfortable and you will feel like stopping – that is when you have to push! Next time you feel like stopping, encourage yourself to run a little further or do a few more reps. If you stop every time you felt like it, you will never see results. There are ways to push through – never settle for what you know you can do, push a little harder each time and you will feel that much better you did it!
