I AM GETTING MARRIED IN 5 MONTHS!
Eeekkkk how crazy! I’ve been doing a countdown since 12 months and it is so insane that we are now at the 5 month mark! We are super excited and anxious for our wedding day and we can’t wait until it’s here!
Ps; the photo above was taken at a Wedding Creative photo session we were a part of last summer – it was not taken on our wedding day as our wedding is not until this fall! If you’re interested in seeing more photos from this shoot, then check out Carolyn Bentum’s photography website!
ONE // OUR FIRST LOOK
Yes, a first look is not considered “traditional” but this is something I’ve wanted to do since the very beginning. I know my fiancé would have liked to go the traditional route and see me for the first time at the alter, but he has always been understanding of my reasons to do a first look and eventually accepted and is happy to do a first look! There are actually a lot of reasons why I wanted to do a first look – my main reason is that I believe it will help calm my nerves before walking down the aisle. The last thing I want is to be a blubbery mess as I walk down the aisle in front of all my family, friends and fiancé… no thanks! I also wanted to have first look photos – I think you get more personal, emotional photos from first looks because the two of you are all alone (with your photographer, of course) and you aren’t afraid of crying or trying to act a certain way in front of guests. Another big reason for doing a first look is that it lets you spend some quality time, just the two of you, before the chaos that is your wedding day really begins! I have read so many blog posts and books about how hard it is to find alone time after the ceremony, so having a first look means you are guaranteed at least a little alone time… yes please!
TWO // PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY
Of course this was going to be one of my top reasons! I LOVE photography and videography and I wouldn’t dare not have a photographer/videographer at my wedding. If you think about it, after the wedding, the dress gets put away somewhere; the decor gets thrown or given away; the guests leave, some whom may be coming from far away, some you may not see again, etc. What will you have to remember the day?! Photography and videography are all that you will have to look back on and remember the day. Having physical and visual copies of our wedding day is so precious for my fiancé and I and we can’t wait to see how our photos and videos turn out!
THREE // VENUE & RECEPTION DECOR
Our venue is so beautiful! It has recently undergone renovations and it looks absolutely amazing and we are so happy with it. With that being said, I am planning on going very simple for our decor as the room is very rustic and brassy-looking. I want to keep that look/theme throughout my decor so I have decided to keep it simple with white table linens, white chair covers and tall flower centrepieces. The head table will be a little more extravagant and there are a few other details we’ve decided on that I am super excited about… you’ll just have to wait and see!
FOUR // OUR FIRST DANCE
The first dance will be an opportunity to exhale and bond with your spouse – a significant and memorable part of our special day that will be remembered for the rest of our lives. I have envisioned our first dance a million times over in my head and every time it’s a little bit different than the last. I want to keep it traditional but also add a little flare – a little bit of “us” into it. It’s our chance to get creative, to be ourselves – with all of our closest friends and family watching… no pressure though, right!
FIVE // OUR HONEYMOON
This is still part of the wedding, right?! The way I see it, is that the honeymoon is SO necessary. Some may see it as a lavish vacation, and while that is true in some cases, it is also much needed time in a newlywed’s life. If you’re lucky, you may skip the theatrics of wedding planning, but for most of us, wedding planning is a lot of work and a lot of stress on the relationship. I believe there are many pros about a honeymoon – it is a time to calm down and relax after the wedding; a time to reflect and absorb the new reality they have created and it is also a time for privacy and intimacy. I can’t wait for our honeymoon and I am excited to (hopefully) begin planning it soon!
Well there you have it – my top 5 things I am most excited for and to 5 more months of wedding planning to go!
What are you most excited for about your wedding? Or if you already had your wedding, do you have any advice for any of the topics I mentioned?! I would love to hear from you! XOXO
